Hiring an Admin Assistant: The Hiring Process

What’s covered in this learning:

Finding and hiring your first admin assistant can feel overwhelming, but you can definitely do it. Here’s a way to approach the hiring process to make it effective for you.

Here is the teaching video for the second class. It’s only about 18 minutes.

You may want pen and paper, other ways of taking notes and recording insights. Pause as much as you need to!

The PDF for the Class 2 video is here.

Questions and Answers will be posted after the call.

1. Kristin- I have a LOT of content over 3 websites that needs to be consolidated, I reached out for help, and it came back at $5-$10K.

2. Camille – I’ve been having conversations with potential VAs, your opinion on hiring VAs out of the country?

3. Camille- I’ve met with several VAs am I being too picky? I’m getting red flags.

4. Leslie- I’ve gone through at least 3 rounds of the early stages of what I could give away, doing the lists. I am drowning in maintenance, and yet I keep not following through with hiring.

5. Miriam- I made a big shift around my expectations with my clients, and it was a big shift. Just adjusting my schedule so I teach 4-6 hours less per week, and gives me so much more time to work on my business, and to consider hiring someone.

6. Kristin- Have you, through the Heart of Business, ever thought about becoming a resource for different resources- like web designers, and others.

7. Rev Amy- I need help clarifying what I can offload, I’m a control freak.

Your assignment:

  1. Watch the video, and read the PDFs.
  2. Attend the Q&A call (or listen to the answers once they are posted here).
  3. Take the time to find your own relationship to hiring an administrative assistant.
  4. Answer the questions.

You might find it helpful to open up a Google Doc, or another file, or even in a paper notebook (gasp!) and answer the questions there, so you can track your progress.

Questions:

  • What kinds of skills does your business need, based on the projects to be done? Are they primarily relationship skills or technical/administrative skills?
  • Who do you know who is already using administrative help? Who can give you referrals? Where can you begin to ask?
  • What small projects can you use in the interview process?
  • Any other insights or learnings?
