The Full Question: To be honest, this way really stresses me out… and I feel they’re doing this to try to get clients to pay them to do it. I get very lost with what on earth to post. I am an extremely opinionated and trained person too… but for whatever reason I get stuck… I’m currently signed up for the learning community, are there any trainings on this to help me post from my heart so that I’m speaking to my audience? That would be helpful. thank you.
Answer: I absolutely get why that would stress you out. There is no one formula that everyone must do to be successful. That said, it does help to be present. When you spend time with friends, it deepens the relationship, and so spending time with people you know on social media definitely deepens that.
Also, posting multiple times in a week doesn’t mean having an involved post every time you do. This past week I’ve posted a few times, asking for a recommendation for a cookbook focusing on learning how to make sauces, shared that I had a combination of Rage Against the Machine and The Ramones stuck in my head, reshared a meme of a painting of the Last Supper with everyone depicted historically accurately, as in everyone was brown or black. Also a post celebrating my book being published, and shared a video I had made for our email newsletter.
That’s not really strategic, aside from remembering to post about Heart of Business. It’s just from my heart. Some weeks I’m super active, other weeks way less so.
Play with it, and never forget these are people you are connecting with.
You mentioned the Learning Community, and this is a great question to bring to the online group, or to a coaching call for discussion. I supported one of our members to start posting on social media, which she did with a lot of nervousness and vulnerability… and she’s knocking it out of the park. She’s posting in ways that are really heart-felt and connecting, and people are responding.
The Full Question: I would love my business to be sustained by referrals and client recommendations more than social media campaigns. I am assuming I need some sort of ” presence” or “enough” marketing materials before I reach out to others….. thoughts?
Answer: For small ones, you can start immediately. It’s true, it’s good to have a few articles written, or other pieces of content at hand, just because it can make it smoother. But, if you have a conversation with someone, and what comes out between the two of you is a topic for an article they want to share, you can tell them, “I’ll get it to you in a week!” or whatever your timeline is.
I find that, in general, people are kind and supportive. Don’t let the need for preparation keep you from starting to play with something.
Now, eventually, if you start to reach out to folks who have much larger audiences, you will probably want to be prepared then… which is why you start small, practicing with what I was calling the C List, so it’s easier, not so intimidating.
Answer: Really, it’s exactly the same. In networking, you’re asking for referrals. In Strategic Alliances, you’re asking for them to refer their audience to you, through the use of content. There isn’t a huge difference, honestly.
Your assignment:
- Watch the strategy video, it’s about 16 minutes.
- Write up your Marketing to Strangers strategy based on the video. Which elements are you going to use? How much you’re going to take them on? Write it all out, and make sure it aligns with your heart, and fits in with your other commitments.
- If necessary, is there something else in your business or your life that needs to be temporarily decreased or set aside so you have time to integrate marketing to strangers strategies into your business schedule?
- For healing, there are another few Remembrances. Use the ones that you’re drawn to to support your heart walking into this work.
- If it’s in alignment, allow yourself to deeply receive the blessing from the final live class.
Questions:
- Write out your strategy for Marketing to Strangers. Be as detailed as you like, so you can be clear about your time commitment.
- How does the strategy feel in your heart, in your body?
