Assembling Your Article

What’s covered in this learning:

Now you’ve got all the elements, just assemble them and, voila! And yes, I know it’s not always exactly that easy… and yet, maybe it’s not that hard, either.

1. Other Types of Articles

Here’s the audio. Pause as often as you need to.

Your Assignment:

  • Starting with a fresh page, copy and paste each of your five elements in order. The Keyhole, the Teaching, Drama/Metaphor, The Stepladder, and the Caboose.
  • Using as your guide the Class 3 PDF, pages 22-29, go ahead and start to assemble your article, using your collected elements. It’s more work than just plopping them down.
  • Go through your assembled article, and add in any Special Sauce techniques, to help with flow and readability, and fun.
  • Go through the article once more, reading it out loud, and see if there’s an overly professional or academic language that needs to be made warmer or more conversational.
  • Sit back and appreciate what you’ve done!
  • When you have the space, listen to the audio on Other Types of Articles, to open up your creativity and permission.

Once you’ve completed the assignments, answer the following questions for yourself. You may want to get a notebook, or open a document. Answering these questions helps with learning and integration for adult learners.

Questions:

  1. How was it assembling your elements? What do you notice about “assembling” versus “writing” content?
  2. How was it going back through and adding Special Sauce to make your article more readable? What did you notice?
  3. Was there much professional or academic language to change? If so, how was that for your heart? How does it feel to write in a conversational tone?
  4. How do you feel about your article/content?
  5. What take-aways, learnings, breakthroughs do you have from this process?
